Frequently Asked Questions

Contact your local Mathnasium Learning Centre with any questions you may have about online tutoring. Here are some of the more common ones we get:

  • Is online maths tutoring different than in-person tutoring?

Our online maths tutoring replicates in-person tutoring in every way possible. Your child will even be instructed by the same qualified instructors you’ll find in our centres. Students will learn problem-solving skills and critical thinking processes and gain as much of an understanding of maths concepts as much as in-person learning provides.

  • What are the benefits of online tutoring?

Families today have busy schedules, making it challenging for parents and students to find the time to travel to Mathnasium centres. Getting maths help online provides a convenient learning experience without the travel time commitment.

Online maths tutoring allows students to learn in a comfortable, relaxed environment of their choosing. Finally, online maths tutoring allows access to our instructors without any special schedule changes or commuting arrangements.

  • How do I know if I need an online or in-person tutor?

Many factors go into the decision to participate in each type of tutoring. Working with at-home maths tutors may be best if transportation poses a problem or full schedules create issues getting to and from a Mathnasium centre. Online tutoring may also suit you well if you learn better in your own environment.

In-person tutoring may be ideal for students who can easily become distracted at home and those who learn better by having an instructor in the room with them during their learning.

  • What are the benefits of in-person tutoring?

Some students have an easier time grasping maths concepts during in-person tutoring. This may be because lessons are more adaptable for different learners in an in-person setting.

In addition, mathematical demonstrations and manipulations are sometimes better understood by children in an in-person learning environment. Also, building personal relationships is easier in person, and students who are more relaxed with an instructor tend to see more progress.

  • Is online tutoring or in-person tutoring cheaper?

At Mathnasium, the costs and value are identical for in-person and online tutoring. The only thing that changes is the means by which information between the at-home maths tutors and your child is shared.

Children typically engage in the same number of weekly tutoring sessions online as they would if they came to a Mathnasium centre. Every child receives the same quality education for the same cost, whether through in-person or online maths tutoring.

  • Will I still learn as much in online tutoring as in in-person tutoring?

Yes! This is because of our highly qualified tutors’ unique online tutoring approach. At Mathnasium, we do not use pre-recorded videos or rely on lecture-type learning environments for lessons. We also don’t use mindless practice with algorithms or automated games.

Every online tutoring session is live and delivered in a personalised one-on-one format that mirrors our instructors’ in-person tutoring style. Therefore, students who work with maths tutors online have every advantage and learn every bit as much as their peers who participate in in-person tutoring.

  • Will online tutoring help my child with maths?

Absolutely. Mathnasium’s maths tutors online will deliver the same instruction to your child that we have provided for more than 15 years. Your child will advance their current maths skills and learn new ones, and as they do, their self-confidence will improve.

They will also hone critical thinking skills and develop more advanced problem-solving skills, which are vital to success with mathematics. The comprehensive understanding your child will gain with online maths tutoring will be valuable both in school and beyond.

  • Can my child switch to in-person tutoring after enrolling in online tutoring?

Absolutely. Your Mathnasium enrolment is valid for both in-person and online tutoring. You can choose to continue with online tutoring or transition easily to in-person tutoring.
