FAQ

Mathnasium Frequently Asked Questions

  • How is Mathnasium different from private tutoring?

As a supplemental education provider, Mathnasium is structured as a Learning Center rather than as a tutorial service. A tutor’s job is to help a student get through the night’s homework and Friday’s test. Mathnasium does provide a degree of support in terms of homework and upcoming tests. Our primary role, however, as a Learning Center is to delve into the reasons why tonight’s homework is such a huge issue. Usually it is a series of knowledge gaps that students have incurred over the years that are contributing to or causing the homework hassle and the frustration and confusion.
  • Do you work with advanced students or only the ones struggling with math?

We empower students of all skill levels to excel in math, whether they are looking to catch up, keep up, or get ahead on their math journey.

We work with advanced students to expand their math skills and help them achieve their greatest potential. At Mathnasium, advanced students can explore the topics beyond their school’s math curriculum and receive personalized support to achieve their unique academic goals.

If a student is struggling or simply looking to keep up in their math class, Mathnasium will build upon what they already know, addressing their learning gaps and teaching math in a way that makes sense to them.
  • Why do you require an assessment for enrollment?

Each student is given a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints their strengths, knowledge gaps, and unique goals, so that we can create a personalized learning plan that will put them on the best path to math mastery.
  • Do you give homework to students?

No. All learning occurs under the efficient and effective guidance of our trained instructors. Adding homework would risk frustration and overload. In fact, we'll set aside some time each session to help your student with their school homework.
  • How often do students attend Mathnasium?

Mathnasium students attend twice weekly sessions. Each session is approximately one hour. Instruction hours are on weekday afternoons, and Saturday mornings during the school year. Sessions are scheduled monthly by parents on our center's online calendar, and can be flexibly rescheduled or cancelled up until the same day with four hours notice.

  • What does Mathnasium cost?

Mathnasium provides premium value by combining a proven learning method, homework help and a fun factor designed to build passion, excitement and confidence in math. There is a flat monthly enrollment fee for our program, and students attend twice weekly—much like a gym membership. Attending less frequently will slow results and attending too often could lead to student burnout. Contact our center for more details on enrollment packages.
