Learn MoreContact your local Mathnasium Learning Centre with any questions you may have about primary maths school tutoring. Here are some of the more common ones we get:
Ask your child about how maths is going at school. They may be frustrated or anxious and may need maths homework help. School feedback or reports may identify areas to work on more than in other subjects. When a child is struggling to keep up in maths, they may have difficulty applying maths concepts out of context or in word problems.
Primary school maths tutoring can ease a child’s stress while they develop the confidence to grow and hone their newfound skills.
Making maths practice fun is critical to supporting the efforts that teachers or maths tutors put in to help your child.
You can incorporate age-appropriate games and puzzles and use plenty of visual aids and technology while taking a hands-on approach to supporting your child. This approach encourages the child to interact with objects, keeping them engaged longer and facilitating learning.
Perhaps the most important thing you can do to prepare your child for secondary school maths is to get them interested in numbers and maths in contexts beyond the classroom. This includes making the home a “maths-positive” environment, however, you personally feel about it!
Make maths a part of everyday life using interactive maths games and tutorials. In other words, gamify maths. Additionally, get them the right kind of primary school maths tutoring with Mathnasium. Our maths tutors will help your child prepare for secondary school maths and gain the confidence to advance their knowledge.
Yes! Mathnasium's maths tutors are specially trained to provide face-to-face instruction on curriculum content such as fractions, addition and subtraction, percentages, decimals, multiplication and division. They can also provide maths homework help at all levels.
When children work with our maths tutors, more than their grades improve. Their confidence in their abilities improves, and so do their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which they will apply across and beyond the curriculum.
One of the main things you can do to prepare your child for Reception is to draw attention to maths in their life at home. When you do, you’ll support and reinforce the benefits your child receives from school or maths tutoring in the future.
Don’t just teach them to count; represent quantities with objects. Use games, cards, cooking and DIY to provide a hands-on approach to making learning fun and keep them engaged.
At Mathnasium, we understand that assessments can sometimes feel stressful for students. That’s why we take a personalised and engaging approach to each assessment. We start by building rapport with your child, giving them a short centre tour, and getting to know them.
We conduct both a verbal and written assessment to identify your child’s strengths and areas for improvement as well as to gain a true understanding of how each student approaches and thinks about maths. More importantly, our assessments don’t feel like a test – we will interact with your student, encourage them and celebrate their work.
After an assessment, we review the results with care to identify your child’s strengths and areas for improvement, as well as any learning gaps. Our expert team then creates a customised learning plan that focuses on your child’s individual needs and goals.
We also provide ongoing feedback and support to help your child improve their understanding and confidence in maths. We will continue to revisit their goals and adjust the learning plan as needed to ensure your child is making progress towards their objectives.
